Photographer’s Q&A
What kind of camera do you use?
I’m a Nikon shooter…I always have been. I started with a used model & a roll of Tri-X film for my first black and white photography
course in college, and I remain a loyal Nikon girl today.
My main camera body is a D800, and I still use my D300 as a backup.
Favorite lens?
Right now its a toss up between my 135mm f/2.0 and the 85mm f/1.4.
What editing software do you use?
I use Adobe LR3 & PS CS6 Extended. I also use Animoto for creating videos.
Do you use actions?
I do sometimes…mostly for my own personal images or if I’m doing a session and I’m aiming for a certain look
or feel for a whole set of images. When I was first starting out, I bought Kevin Kubota’s action packs
and I still use them and love them. Oh, and I DO love his Dashboard for organizing all my actions sets. Flora Bella and Paint the Moon make 2
of my most favorite action sets at the moment. I also write some of my own actions to simplify my work flow,
and create most of my own card and album templates, too. I try to keep session images I produce for my clients very simple and clean, so they are
retouched individually by me in CS6 and LR3, without using actions.
What tips/resources can you recommend for a beginner?
Read you camera’s owners manual cover to cover. Learn to shoot in manual mode. Join a group or forum and ask
for feedback from others. Ask questions. Sign up for workshops. Take advantage of tutorials on the web.
Never, never stop learning!
